Paul explicitly identifies Christ as “our passover” and says He has been sacrificed for us, directly applying Passover sacrificial language to Jesus’ death. This is one of the clearest inspired New Testament interpretations of the Exodus Passover institution.

Passover provides major sacrificial-lamb and blood-deliverance background for Revelation’s slain Lamb who redeems people by His blood. The connection belongs to a larger biblical Lamb trajectory that also includes prophetic suffering imagery, so Passover should be treated as foundational but not exclusive.

Leviticus places Passover and Unleavened Bread into Israel’s annual sacred calendar, directly carrying forward the feast established in Exodus 12. The later law does not invent a new festival; it orders the already-given Exodus memorial within the broader cycle of appointed times.

Luke explicitly places twelve-year-old Jesus in Jerusalem during Passover, situating His first recorded words within Israel’s central feast of deliverance. The link is certain as historical setting, while any further typological claim about the scene must be argued separately rather than assumed from the feast reference alone.

Luke uniquely says Moses and Elijah discuss Jesus’ coming ‘exodos’ to be accomplished at Jerusalem. The noun can mean departure/death, but with Moses present and Jerusalem as the destination, new-Exodus and Israel-restoration readings have substantial lexical and narrative support.

‘Loins girded’ strongly recalls Israel eating Passover ready for departure, and some scholarship reads Luke 12:35–40 as a Passover-like vigil/new-Exodus scene. Because girded-loins imagery also functions as an ordinary ancient idiom of readiness, the Passover reading should be presented as strong resonance rather than certain allusion.

Matthew explicitly locates Jesus’ approaching death and final meal in Passover time, placing the Passion inside Israel’s central Exodus festival of deliverance. The timing creates a deliberate redemption horizon even before the meal’s covenant-blood language is spoken.

Luke explicitly identifies the meal as Passover; Exodus 12 establishes the Passover meal, blood-sign deliverance, and commanded remembrance that form the scriptural setting for Jesus’ final meal.

Joshua records Israel keeping Passover on the fourteenth day after entering Canaan, directly continuing the feast instituted in Exodus 12. The observance shows the Exodus memorial crossing from wilderness identity into life in the promised land.

Josiah’s Passover in 2 Kings 23 deliberately renews the feast established in Exodus 12, making the celebration an act of covenant return in the years before Judah’s exile. The later narrative presents renewed obedience to the Passover command as part of Josiah’s wider reform rather than as a new or unrelated festival.

The Passover animal had to be without blemish. Peter describes Christ’s redeeming blood as that of “a lamb without blemish and without spot,” placing Jesus within the Bible’s sacrificial and Passover field without explicitly naming Exodus 12.

Purim joins a broader biblical pattern of preserving communal memory through an annual feast after deliverance. Passover remembers rescue from Egypt; Purim remembers reversal from threatened destruction in Persia. The feasts are distinct in origin and meaning, but both turn deliverance into calendared communal memory.

After the exile and completion of the second temple, the returned community celebrates Passover, explicitly continuing the feast first established in Exodus 12. Ezra presents the observance as part of restored covenant life, showing that the original deliverance from Egypt remained central to Israel’s identity after exile.

Passover lamb imagery is a major canonical background to John’s title “the Lamb of God,” especially because John later shapes Jesus’ death with Passover associations. Even so, John 1 does not identify Exodus 12 as the one exclusive source of the title, so the Passover reading should remain a strong trajectory rather than an overconfident single-source claim.
