Be Holy: Redeemed by the Precious Blood of the Lamb
Because this salvation has been revealed, Peter turns from praise to a holy way of life. He explicitly draws the command “Be ye holy; for I am holy” from Leviticus and applies Israel’s holiness vocation to believers whose hope is fixed on the revelation of Jesus Christ. Their sojourn is to be lived in reverent fear because the Father judges impartially. Yet holiness is not purchased with moral effort: Peter says they were redeemed not with silver or gold but with Christ’s precious blood, “as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” Levitical sacrificial language, redemption, resurrection, and glory converge here.
