Israel’s covenant life begins with hearing and doing God’s words. Luke develops the same hearing-and-obedience pattern in the good soil, the warning about how one hears, and Jesus’ true family.

The wise builder hears Jesus' words and does them, echoing Scripture's repeated link between hearing God's instruction and obedient practice. Wisdom traditions of stable/unstable houses provide additional background.

Jesus redefines primary family identity around doing the Father's will. The saying belongs to Scripture's strong obedience/household world, but no single Torah passage is directly cited.

Matthew's 'phylacteries' refer to a Jewish practice rooted in Torah commands to bind God's words/signs on hand and between the eyes. Jesus' criticism targets ostentatious enlargement for display, not the mere existence of Scripture-reminder practices.

Deuteronomy commands God’s words to be kept in the heart, taught to children, and bound closely; Proverbs similarly tells the son to keep parental instruction bound on the heart as lamp and guide.

Deuteronomy commands God’s words to be kept and taught diligently across generations; 2 Timothy turns faithful transmission into a chain of entrusted teaching from Paul to Timothy to faithful people to others.

Proverbs’ father-to-son transmission of received wisdom grows naturally within Deuteronomy’s command that covenant words be stored in the heart and taught diligently to children. Household instruction becomes covenant continuity.

Proverbs tells the son to keep commands, write them on the heart, and bind them closely, strongly echoing Deuteronomy’s command to keep God’s words on the heart and bind them as a sign.
