The Commandment Is a Lamp
Parental instruction is to be bound to the heart because it accompanies the son while walking, sleeping, and waking. Commandment, law, reproof, and discipline are described as lamp, light, and way of life, linking wisdom with the Bible’s broader picture of God’s instruction illuminating the path.
Deuteronomy commands God’s words to be kept in the heart, taught to children, and bound closely; Proverbs similarly tells the son to keep parental instruction bound on the heart as lamp and guide.
