Zechariah celebrates God’s saving work as the fulfillment of the holy covenant and “the oath which he sware to our father Abraham.” Genesis 22 is the Abraham story’s great self-oath scene, where God swears by Himself.

Zechariah’s “horn of salvation” language for the Davidic house belongs to a royal-deliverance vocabulary already present in Hannah’s song and Psalm 132. Luke gathers that older imagery around Jesus’ coming, presenting salvation as the fulfillment of covenant hope rather than an isolated metaphor.

Covenant mercy, forgiveness of sins, and preparation of God’s people converge with prophetic new-covenant restoration themes that Luke-Acts will develop further.

Luke 1 anticipates John as the one preparing the Lord’s ways, and Luke 3 later makes the Isaiah 40 identification explicit by quotation.

Zechariah announced that God had ‘visited’ his people; after the Nain raising, the crowd declares that God has ‘visited his people.’ Luke turns the infancy promise into visible narrative action.

Luke’s visitation language moves from gracious divine coming to the tragedy of failing to recognize the time of visitation, a word trail worth surfacing as judgment on missed grace.

Luke 1:76 says John will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, strongly echoing Malachi 3:1’s messenger who prepares the way. In Luke 1 this stands beside the explicit Elijah/heart-turning reuse of Malachi 4:5–6, creating a concentrated Malachi-forerunner portrait.

Zechariah praises God for raising a “horn of salvation” in the house of his servant David, explicitly locating messianic salvation inside David’s royal line. The language develops the covenant promise of David’s house and enduring seed into the Gospel’s announcement of Jesus.

David calls the LORD “the horn of my salvation”; Zechariah announces that God has raised up “an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David.” The shared horn-of-salvation image and Davidic setting form a strong canonical echo, though Luke does not introduce the wording as a formal quotation of 2 Samuel 22:3.

Foreshadowing / Mirroring: Hannah’s song speaks of the LORD exalting the horn of his anointed; Zechariah announces Jesus as the horn of salvation raised in David’s house. Luke does not mark this as a formal quotation, but the wording and Davidic-messianic setting make the echo very strong.
