The Lord Gives a Widow Her Son Back
At Nain Jesus meets a funeral procession for a widow’s only son. He is moved with compassion, touches the bier, speaks to the dead man, and gives him back to his mother. The crowd responds with prophetic language: “A great prophet is risen up among us” and “God hath visited his people.”
Where this fits in the story: Elijah and Elisha both restore sons to grieving mothers, and Luke has just invoked those prophets in chapter 4. Yet Jesus does not petition another power in the narrative—he commands the dead man directly.
