A Divine Encounter – They Saw God and Ate and Drank
After the covenant is confirmed, a remarkable and mysterious event takes place. Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders ascend partway up the mountain—and there, they see the God of Israel. Scripture says, “Under His feet was something like a pavement made of lapis lazuli, as bright blue as the sky.” They saw God, and yet, they lived. Not only that, they “ate and drank” in His presence. This brief yet stunning moment reveals the awe-inspiring grace of God. In the ancient world, no one approached the presence of a king without fear—much less the holy and consuming fire of the Lord of Hosts. But here, God makes room for communion. This shared meal becomes a covenant meal, a sign of peace between the divine and human.
