Nadab and Abihu Offer Unauthorized Fire and Die Before YHWH
The Bible itself tells us where Nadab and Abihu matter later: Leviticus 16 opens by naming their deaths and then tightly regulates entry into the inner sanctuary. Their story becomes the warning backdrop for the Day of Atonement.
Where this fits in the story: Exodus 24:9–11 — probable narrative reversal. Nadab and Abihu once ascended Sinai with Moses/Aaron/elders and beheld God without being struck down; now as priests they die when they bring unauthorized fire. Leviticus does not explicitly quote Exodus 24, so retain as a strong narrative comparison rather than explicit reference.
