Shepherd the Flock under the Chief Shepherd
Peter addresses elders as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ’s sufferings, and a participant in the glory to come. Their charge is shepherd-shaped leadership: tend God’s flock, exercise oversight willingly rather than by compulsion, eagerly rather than for shameful gain, and by example rather than domination. The true owner of the flock is God, and the decisive leader is the “chief Shepherd” who will appear and award an unfading crown of glory. The section then widens the call to humility across the community and quotes Proverbs: God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
