Peter’s “tasted that the Lord is gracious” deliberately echoes Psalm 34:8, “O taste and see that the LORD is good.” In 1 Peter’s immediate flow the reader then comes to Christ as the living Stone, creating a strong Christological reuse of the psalm while still requiring care about the referent of “Lord.”

Peter quotes Isaiah 28:16 to identify Jesus as God’s chosen and precious cornerstone in Zion and to attach faith in him to vindication rather than shame.

First Peter directly quotes Psalm 118:22 and applies the rejected-stone text to Christ, joining it with Isaiah’s cornerstone imagery. The apostolic reading makes Jesus both the rejected stone and the divinely chosen foundation around whom the people of God are built.

Peter directly reuses Isaiah 8:14’s “stone of stumbling” and “rock of offence” language for those who reject the word.

New birth through the enduring word flows directly into the newborn-child image of craving pure milk and growing, making 1:23–2:3 one continuous birth-and-growth movement.

Peter’s spiritual house and holy priesthood in 2:5 expands immediately into the royal priesthood, holy nation, and possessed people of 2:9–10.

The “spiritual house” built from living stones in 2:5 reappears as “the house of God” where judgment begins in 4:17.

First Peter pictures believers as living stones being built into a spiritual house, complementing 1 Timothy’s “household of God” identity. The approved evidence supports this relationship while keeping direct quotation, canonical development, and interpretive inference distinct.

Peter develops temple language beyond the stone sanctuary by describing believers as living stones being built into a spiritual house and holy priesthood. The connection belongs to the broader canonical transformation of temple imagery rather than to a claim that Peter is allegorizing individual architectural details from Solomon’s building.

Isaiah 28:16 → 1PE 2:6: the later passage directly quotes Isaiah in a Christological context.
