A Great King and a Great Name Among the Nations
God would rather have the temple doors shut than receive contemptuous worship. Against that dark backdrop comes one of Malachi’s widest visions: from the rising of the sun to its setting, the Lord’s name will be great among the nations. The chapter ends not with Judah’s smallness but with the declaration, “I am a great King.”
Where this fits in the story: the promise that the nations will know and honor Israel’s God reaches back to the blessing of the nations promised through Abraham and forward through the Psalms and Prophets toward worldwide worship. The language of God’s name being praised from sunrise to sunset strongly resonates with Psalm 113:3.
