The Innumerable Multitude Before the Throne
Revelation 7:9 widens the vision from a numbered company to a multitude no man can number, drawn from every nation, kindred, people, and tongue. They stand before the throne and the Lamb in white robes with palms, showing that God’s saving purpose reaches across the nations and gathers a worshiping people around the Lamb.
Revelation 7:9–17 answers the terror of the sixth seal with an innumerable multitude standing before God and the Lamb. They have come through great tribulation, washed their robes in the Lamb’s blood, and now serve before God’s throne. The closing promises—no more hunger, thirst, scorching heat, or tears—anticipate the final new-creation comfort of Revelation 21.
Malachi’s horizon of God’s name being great among the nations develops toward Revelation’s vision of an innumerable multinational multitude worshiping before God’s throne. Malachi’s worldwide-name horizon develops toward Revelation’s multinational worship scene.
No hunger, thirst, or scorching heat in Revelation 7 closely reuses Isaiah 49:10's restoration promise.
Revelation's Lamb who shepherds God's people reaches back to Ezekiel 34's promise of God's Davidic shepherd.
God wiping away tears in Revelation 7:17 reuses Isaiah 25:8's promise bound to the defeat of death.
Daniel's all-peoples-and-languages kingdom vision contributes to Revelation's multinational multitude before the throne and Lamb.
Revelation 7:12 probably reuses Psalm 96’s worship vocabulary of blessing, glory, strength, and praise within the throne-room doxology. The language belongs to a broad biblical worship tradition, so the connection is best kept probable rather than certain or exclusive.
The Good Shepherd who lays down his life is climactically portrayed in Revelation as the Lamb who shepherds the redeemed. Revelation fuses John’s Good Shepherd and Lamb images.
