Moab and Ammon Humbled; the Nations Worship the LORD
The focus shifts east to Moab and Ammon, peoples tied to Israel’s own family story through Lot. Their sin here is not simply that they are foreign. Zephaniah condemns their contempt, border boasts, and pride against the people of the LORD.
Their threatened fate is compared to Sodom and Gomorrah—a deliberate return to one of Scripture’s great judgment memories. Yet verse 11 suddenly widens beyond devastation. The LORD will bring the gods of the earth low, and people will worship him “every one from his place,” even from distant coastlands. The judgment of arrogant nations is therefore not the Bible’s final word about the nations.
