Continue in the Scriptures: God-Breathed and Equipped
Timothy must continue in what he has learned, remembering both his teachers and the “holy scriptures” he has known from childhood. Those Scriptures are able to make him wise unto salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. The passage therefore joins Israel’s sacred writings to the gospel’s Christ-centered fulfillment rather than setting them against one another.
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God” translates a striking Greek adjective meaning “God-breathed.” Scripture is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness so that “the man of God” may be complete and equipped for every good work.
