Emmaus: The Risen Jesus Opens Moses and All the Prophets
Two disciples leave Jerusalem for Emmaus unable to make sense of Jesus’ death and reports of the empty tomb. The unrecognized Jesus rebukes their slowness to believe and, beginning with Moses and all the prophets, interprets the things concerning himself. Recognition comes in the breaking of bread, and they return to Jerusalem.
Where this fits in the story: this passage gives a governing biblical pattern in narrative form—the Messiah is understood through the integrated scriptural story, not isolated prooftexts alone.
A major “aha”: Luke repeats “opened” language across the chapter—eyes opened, Scriptures opened, understanding opened. Resurrection recognition requires both encounter and scriptural illumination.
