Where Scripture takes it next: Zechariah 6:12–13 develops the restored-temple horizon around the coming Branch, who builds the temple, bears glory, rules, and is joined to priestly and peace imagery. Hebrews 12:26–29 then explicitly quotes Haggai’s “yet once more” shaking language and interprets it in light of the final removal of what can be shaken and the reception of an unshakable kingdom. Revelation 21 ultimately gathers nations, glory, precious things, and divine presence into the New Jerusalem, where God and the Lamb are its temple.

Translation issue: the KJV’s “the desire of all nations shall come” has a long Christian history, but the Hebrew verb “shall come” is plural, the immediate context speaks of silver and gold, and the ancient Septuagint renders the phrase as the “choice/precious things” of all the nations. Many modern translations therefore say “treasures,” “precious things,” or “wealth.”

Christological calibration: Haggai 2:6 is directly carried forward by Hebrews, and Haggai’s broader temple/kingdom/Davidic hopes do converge canonically on Christ. But Haggai 2:7 itself should not be presented as an uncontested direct personal title for the Messiah.

Test the tradition — “the latter glory was greater because Jesus physically entered this temple”: Historic Christian interpreters have often read Haggai 2:7–9 through Christ, the new covenant, and the people of God. That is a real and important reception history. But the New Testament does not explicitly say that Jesus’ physical entrance into Herod’s temple is the fulfillment of Haggai 2:9. What the New Testament does explicitly do is quote Haggai 2:6 in Hebrews 12:26 and carry its “yet once more” language toward the final shaking and the unshakable kingdom. So the Christ-centered trajectory is strong, while the physical-entry formulation should be labeled traditional typology rather than direct prophecy.

Presence / covenant lens: Haggai’s promise of greater latter glory is genuinely important, but “Jesus physically entered the Second Temple, therefore Haggai 2:9 is explicitly fulfilled” is a historic Christian synthesis, not a New Testament fulfillment formula. Hebrews explicitly reuses Haggai’s “yet once more” shaking language, which gives us the firmer inspired bridge.
