The Day of the LORD — What You Did Returns
The prophecy suddenly widens. Edom is no longer the only horizon: “the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen.” The governing principle is measure-for-measure justice—“as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee.” Judgment is pictured as a cup the nations must drink, while Mount Zion becomes the place of deliverance and holiness. Jacob and Joseph become fire and flame; Esau becomes stubble.
Where this fits in the story: The prophets repeatedly use the Day of the LORD for decisive divine intervention in judgment and salvation. Obadiah moves from one brother-nation’s violence to the accountability of all nations.
