Jesus answers John by listing deeds whose wording and themes cluster around Isaiah’s restoration promises: blind sight, deaf hearing, lame walking, and good news to the poor. The answer is scripturally saturated even without a formal quotation formula.

‘The dead are raised’ joins prophetic resurrection action already narrated at Nain with Isaiah’s broader resurrection hope. It should not be reduced to a single proof text.

Jesus says ‘it is written’ and cites wording that combines Exodus 23:20 with Malachi 3:1. The messenger goes before ‘you,’ while Malachi’s messenger prepares the way before the LORD, creating a major Christological and new-exodus connection.
