The Angel of the Lord – A Promise of Guidance and Victory
God gives both a promise and a warning. If the people obey the Angel’s voice, He will be an enemy to their enemies and will go before them to drive out the inhabitants of the land. But compromise with the idolatry of those nations will bring destruction. God is not merely after military conquest—He desires their hearts. He warns them not to worship the gods of the nations or adopt their customs. Instead, the people must break down their idols and serve the Lord alone.
