A Kingdom and Priests from Every People
Revelation 5:6–9 presents the slain-yet-standing Lamb as the center of heavenly worship. The Lamb’s death has purchased people for God from every tribe, language, people, and nation. Revelation therefore joins sacrificial imagery, resurrection victory, and worldwide redemption: the One who conquers does so through His blood.
Revelation 5:8–14 expands worship from the elders and living creatures to countless angels and finally every creature. The new song celebrates the Lamb’s worthiness because He was slain and redeemed a people for God. By the end of the scene, blessing and honor are directed to the One on the throne and to the Lamb together.
Revelation 5:9–10 celebrates redemption “out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” and the formation of a kingdom and priests unto God. The priestly-kingdom language reaches back to Israel’s calling in Exodus 19 while expanding the redeemed community across the nations. The Lamb creates a worshiping people who will reign under God.
Revelation says the Lamb has redeemed people from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation and made them a kingdom and priests, developing Sinai’s “kingdom of priests” vocation in a Christ-centered, multinational setting. The verbal correspondence with Exodus 19 is direct and substantial.
First Peter’s royal priesthood develops forward into Revelation’s vision of the Lamb purchasing people from every nation and making them a kingdom and priests to God.
Revelation 5:8–9 strongly echoes Psalm 98’s combination of new song, musical praise, and celebration of divine salvation. The heavenly scene therefore stands inside an established psalmic worship pattern while redirecting the song around the Lamb’s redemptive victory.
Mark 10:45 says the Son of Man gives his life as a ransom for many; Revelation 5:9 praises the Lamb because by his blood he purchased people for God from every tribe, language, people, and nation. The vocabulary is not identical, but the redemptive death-for-many trajectory reaches a clear canonical culmination.
Jesus’ covenant blood poured out for many converges strongly with Revelation’s slain Lamb whose blood secures a people for God.
John’s Lamb-of-God title reaches fuller canonical development in Revelation’s slain, standing, enthroned Lamb.
