Jesus Comes as a Thief — Watch and Keep Your Garments
Revelation 16:12–16 pours the sixth bowl on the Euphrates, prepares the way for kings from the east, and shows demonic spirits gathering the kings of the world for battle. Into that scene Christ warns, “Behold, I come as a thief,” calling His people to watchfulness. The section ends with the gathering at Armageddon, leaving the actual battle for later visions.
Second Peter says the Day of the Lord will come “as a thief,” while Revelation records Jesus saying, “Behold, I come as a thief,” joining unexpected judgment with the need for watchfulness.
Jesus closes Mark 13 by commanding watchfulness because the hour is unknown; Revelation 16:15 likewise blesses the one who watches and keeps ready. The ethical watchfulness trajectory is credible, though Revelation does not cite Mark.
Revelation 16:15 repeats the thief-coming and watchfulness imagery familiar from Jesus’ warning in Matthew 24:42–44. Revelation 16:15 strongly reuses the thief-coming/watchfulness saying tradition found in Matthew 24.
