Jesus explicitly compares the coming of the Son of Man with the days of Noah: ordinary life continued until the Flood suddenly arrived. Genesis becomes a warning that normal routines can mask unpreparedness for divine judgment.

Jesus teaches that the day and hour are unknown, urges watchfulness, and uses thief imagery; 1 Thessalonians says the Day of the Lord comes as a thief and calls believers to watch and be sober.

Matthew’s unexpected-thief/watchfulness warning reappears in Revelation 3:3, where the risen Christ warns Sardis that failure to watch means he will come like a thief. Revelation 3:3 belongs to the early Christian reuse of Jesus’ thief/watchfulness warning.

Revelation 16:15 repeats the thief-coming and watchfulness imagery familiar from Jesus’ warning in Matthew 24:42–44. Revelation 16:15 strongly reuses the thief-coming/watchfulness saying tradition found in Matthew 24.
