One Father, One Covenant, and Treachery in Marriage
The accusation widens from priests to covenant treachery within the community. Malachi appeals to one Father and one Creator, then condemns faithlessness toward the covenant, marriage to “the daughter of a strange god,” and betrayal of “the wife of thy youth” and “wife of thy covenant.” Worship and domestic faithfulness cannot be separated.
Where this fits in the story: Genesis 2 presents marriage as a one-flesh union, while Ezra 9–10 and Nehemiah 13 show that intermarriage tied to covenant unfaithfulness became an acute problem in the restoration community. Malachi adds the neglected-wife side of the crisis: covenant zeal cannot excuse treachery.
