Not Ashamed: Grace Before the Ages and Life Brought to Light
Timothy must not be ashamed of the Lord’s testimony or of Paul “his prisoner.” Instead he is called to share suffering for the gospel “according to the power of God.” The reason is a compact salvation summary: God saved and called his people, not according to their works, but according to his own purpose and grace, given in Christ Jesus before the ages and now manifested through Christ’s appearing.
Where this fits in the story: the passage stretches from God’s purpose before the ages to Christ’s historical appearing and forward to “that day.” Jesus has “abolished death” and brought “life and immortality to light through the gospel.” That language develops the Bible’s death/life trajectory and turns resurrection hope into the foundation for unashamed witness.
