He Saved Us: Mercy, Washing, Spirit, and Heirship
The command to gentleness is grounded in memory: believers themselves once lived in deception, enslaving desires, malice, envy, and hatred. The turning point is not human moral achievement but the appearing of God’s kindness and love. “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us.” Salvation is described through washing of regeneration, renewal by the Holy Ghost, abundant outpouring through Jesus Christ, justification by grace, and heirship in the hope of eternal life.
