The Last Trumpet: Death Swallowed Up in Victory
“Flesh and blood” in its present corruptible condition cannot inherit God’s imperishable kingdom. Paul reveals a “mystery”: not all believers will die, but all will be changed at the last trumpet. The dead will be raised incorruptible and living believers transformed.
Paul then weaves Isaiah 25:8 and Hosea 13:14 into a victory song: death is swallowed up; death’s sting is challenged. He interprets the sting of death as sin and sin’s power in relation to the law, then gives thanks to God “which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
