The Lampstand and the Spirit: Not by Might, Nor by Power
Zechariah sees a golden lampstand supplied by olive trees, then hears the word God wants Zerubbabel to understand: ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit.’ The mountain-like obstacle before the governor will become a plain, and the temple’s capstone will come out amid shouts of grace. The vision is not a generic slogan against effort. It addresses a fragile restoration community attempting a task too large for its visible resources.
Where this fits in the story: Haggai and Ezra place Zerubbabel in the same temple-rebuilding crisis. Zechariah explains the project from heaven’s side: the temple will be completed because the Spirit of the LORD is at work.
