Deuteronomy calls Israel a holy people chosen as YHWH’s special possession; Titus reuses the same covenant vocabulary for the people Christ redeems and purifies for himself. The reuse highlights redeemed belonging without erasing every covenant distinction.

Titus calls Christ’s purified community “a peculiar people,” a people for His own possession, reusing the Septuagint covenant language associated with Israel as YHWH’s treasured possession at Sinai. The phrase shows covenant identity being reapplied to a redeemed people defined by Christ’s saving work.

Titus and 1 Peter both reuse Sinai election language to describe a redeemed people who belong to God and whose transformed life displays his saving work. The approved evidence supports this relationship while preserving the distinction between direct quotation, canonical development, and thematic correspondence.

Titus 2:13 and 2 Peter 1:1 each use Greek wording that joins “God” and “Savior” with Jesus Christ, supporting the reading of Jesus as the referent of both titles. The approved evidence supports this relationship while preserving the distinction between direct quotation, canonical development, and thematic correspondence.

Psalm 130:8 in the Septuagint says the Lord will redeem Israel “from all” its lawlessness, while Titus 2:14 says Jesus gave himself to redeem “us from all lawlessness.” The close Greek wording strongly supports deliberate scriptural echo and gives Christ a role the Psalm assigns to the LORD.

Titus 2 and 2 Timothy 4 share epiphaneia/appearing language for the future manifestation of Jesus Christ, joining hope, holy living, judgment, and kingdom expectation. The approved evidence supports this relationship while preserving the difference between direct quotation, canonical development, and interpretive inference.

Titus and Galatians use closely related self-giving language: Jesus “gave himself” in order to redeem/deliver and form a people shaped by grace. The phrase “gave himself” anchors the parallel: both letters make Christ’s voluntary self-gift the basis of deliverance/redemption and transformed belonging.

Isaiah names the LORD as the unique “God and Saviour”; Titus 2:13 most naturally identifies Jesus Christ as “our great God and Saviour.” The shared divine title makes this a strong Christological title-transfer connection, not a formal quotation.

Ezekiel promises that the LORD will save his people from their lawlessness, cleanse them, and make them his people; Titus 2:14 uses the same cluster for what Jesus accomplishes through his self-giving: redemption from lawlessness, purification, and a people for himself.

Hosea 13:4 identifies the LORD as Israel’s God from Egypt and says there is “no saviour beside me”; Titus repeatedly uses Savior language for God and for Jesus Christ, placing Jesus within the New Testament’s divine salvation confession.

Jesus gives himself to redeem and form a people eager for good works, developing Mark’s servant-ransom mission.
