The LORD Cleanses a People for Himself
Ezekiel joins the stick of Judah with the stick of Joseph/Ephraim so that they become one in his hand. The prophet explicitly interprets the sign as the reunification of divided Israel into one nation under one king, purified from idolatry. Later LDS interpretation connects the sticks with the Bible and Book of Mormon, but that is a reception-history claim rather than Ezekiel’s stated meaning.
Ezekiel promises that the LORD will save his people from their lawlessness, cleanse them, and make them his people; Titus 2:14 uses the same cluster for what Jesus accomplishes through his self-giving: redemption from lawlessness, purification, and a people for himself.
