Passage Overview · Free · Matthew 27:1–10
Judas, Thirty Pieces of Silver, and the Potter's Field
Judas regrets the betrayal, returns the thirty silver pieces, and dies; the priests use the money to buy the potter’s field. Matthew then gives a fulfillment citation attributed to Jeremiah whose wording strongly draws on Zechariah 11 while also resonating with Jeremiah’s potter/field traditions.
Where this fits in the story: Zechariah’s rejected shepherd is valued at thirty silver pieces thrown to the potter/house of the LORD; Jeremiah repeatedly uses potter and purchased-field imagery.
