Judah Hands Samson Over; the Jawbone Victory
The Philistines invade Judah to seize Samson, and three thousand men of Judah bind their own deliverer because they have accepted Philistine rule. When Samson is handed over, the Spirit rushes upon him, the ropes fall away, and he kills a thousand Philistines with a fresh donkey jawbone. The strange weapon underscores dependence on divine empowerment rather than military equipment. Jesus mirroring: Samson is bound and handed over by men of Judah to Philistine power; in the Passion Jesus is bound by his own leaders and delivered to Gentile authority. The parallel is meaningful but not explicit quotation, and the contrast matters: Samson breaks his bonds by force, while Jesus willingly goes to the cross.
