Ahithophel Dies
When Ahithophel sees that his counsel has not been followed, he puts his household affairs in order, goes home, and hangs himself. Because he is a trusted counselor who betrays the Davidic king, and because Judas betrays Jesus and Matthew likewise records a hanging, the episode forms a probable Ahithophel–Judas mirror. Matthew never names Ahithophel, so this is an intertextual echo rather than declared fulfillment.
