The Rich Man, Lazarus, and the Scriptures Already Given
A richly dressed man feasts while poor Lazarus lies at his gate longing for scraps. Death reverses their positions: Lazarus is with Abraham, the rich man is in torment, and a great gulf prevents reversal. The climax comes when the rich man asks for a miraculous warning to his brothers and Abraham replies that they already have Moses and the prophets.
Where this fits in the story: Luke’s blessings and woes, rich-fool warning, generosity teaching, and concern for the poor all converge here. The story takes judgment after death seriously while making Scripture’s present ethical demand unavoidable.
