Mary’s song shares Hannah’s praise, reversal of proud and lowly, divine strength, and covenant-shaped celebration; the Magnificat sounds intentionally at home in Israel’s scriptural songbook.

Mary explicitly names Abraham and his seed as the horizon of God’s remembered mercy, placing Jesus’ coming inside the covenant story rather than treating the incarnation as an isolated new beginning. Luke itself therefore connects the birth narrative to the Abrahamic promises.

The reversal sung by Mary and announced in Jesus' blessings/woes becomes vivid narrative: the hungry sufferer is comforted and the luxurious rich man experiences want.

Mary’s song announces that God scatters the proud, puts down the mighty, exalts the lowly, fills the hungry, and sends the rich away empty; Jesus’ blessings and woes later proclaim the same kingdom reversal directly to poor, hungry, rich, and full hearers.

Deborah calls Jael blessed above women and Elizabeth calls Mary blessed among women. The rare praise formula creates a strong literary echo, while Luke transforms the setting from violent battlefield victory to the peaceful arrival of the Messiah.

Luke’s hill-country journey, Elizabeth’s cry, John’s leaping, and the approximately three-month stay have led many interpreters to hear a deliberate ark echo from 2 Samuel 6. The cluster is meaningful but remains disputed because Luke never explicitly identifies Mary as the ark.

Haman’s humiliation and Mordecai’s exaltation fit the canonical reversal pattern in which the proud are brought low and the lowly are raised. Mary’s song in Luke 1 states that theme theologically, while Esther dramatizes it narratively. Luke does not specifically allude to Esther, so the relationship is thematic development rather than literary dependence.

The ark’s journey into Jerusalem and Luke’s visitation narrative share a distinctive cluster of movement, leaping, joy, blessing, and an approximately three-month stay. That pattern has long supported Mary-as-Ark typology, but Luke never explicitly identifies Mary as the ark.
