Luke uses the same squander/scatter verb for the younger son wasting property and the manager wasting his master's assets, deliberately linking adjacent stories about possessions and accountability.

Torah regulates debt, generosity, release, and interest among Israelites. Some interpreters think the manager removes interest or commission, but Luke never says that; it remains a possible reconstruction, not the explanation to teach as fact.

Biblical wisdom praises foresight and prudent action. Jesus commends the manager's strategic foresight, not his unrighteousness, and redirects that urgency toward kingdom-shaped use of wealth.

Joshua 24’s demand for exclusive service to YHWH provides strong covenant background for Jesus’ warning that no one can serve both God and mammon; both passages expose divided allegiance as impossible.

Deuteronomy’s command to love YHWH wholeheartedly provides covenant background for Jesus’ statement that no servant can serve two masters, though Luke 16 does not formally quote the Shema.

Proverbs 21:17–23 and Luke 16:10–12 share a thematic concern with stewardship, character, and the faithful handling of resources. The connection is probable and thematic rather than a direct quotation.

Proverbs 27:20–27 and Luke 16:10–12 share a strong thematic concern with faithful stewardship and responsible attention to what has been entrusted. The connection is thematic rather than a direct quotation.
