Watch for Division; God Will Crush Satan under Your Feet

Paul warns believers to watch for people who create divisions and stumbling blocks contrary to the teaching they received. Their polished speech must be judged by fruit and fidelity rather than charm. Paul wants the church wise concerning good and innocent concerning evil.

Then comes a striking promise: “the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly.” The combination of Satan, crushing, and under-foot victory strongly recalls Genesis 3:15’s conflict with the serpent. Paul does not formally quote Genesis and he does not call this an explicit type, so the safest classification is a strong canonical echo/trajectory. The wording also joins God’s victory to the feet of the believing community.
