Hebrews applies a line preserved in the longer textual tradition of Deuteronomy 32:43 to the Son: God’s angels or heavenly beings are commanded to worship him, creating a major textual and Christological connection.

Hebrews directly quotes the Father–Son promise, “I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son,” and applies it to Christ. This is the clearest direct New Testament quotation of 2 Samuel 7 and demonstrates that the Davidic covenant legitimately extends beyond its immediate Solomonic horizon.

Hebrews 1:5 directly reuses Psalm 2:7 in relation to Jesus/Christ; the connection should be read in both the original psalmic setting and the New Testament’s inspired Christological use.

Hebrews 1:6 may draw on Psalm 97:7 in the Greek tradition when commanding all God’s angels to worship the Son, but Deuteronomy 32:43 LXX is also a major source candidate. The wording supports real scriptural reuse while the exact source attribution remains disputed.

Hebrews 1 applies the royal Father–Son promise to Christ, using wording preserved in both 2 Samuel 7:14 and 1 Chronicles 17:13. The Christological interpretation is explicit and certain, while the immediate textual source cannot be isolated uniquely because the two Old Testament parallels are so close.
