Moses Intercedes – A Picture of Christ
God saw what was happening and told Moses to go down, calling the people stiff-necked. God was ready to destroy them and start over with Moses. But Moses, like a true intercessor, stood in the gap. He pleaded with God to spare the people, reminding Him of His promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
God relented from destroying them. This moment shows us the power of intercession and the heart of a mediator.
When Moses saw the sin for himself, he shattered the tablets of the law—a powerful symbol that Israel had already broken the covenant. He burned the calf, ground it to powder, scattered it in water, and made the people drink it.
