Do to Them as to Midian: A Prayer for Judgment
The prayer remembers earlier biblical victories over Midian and Sisera and asks God to make the present enemies like chaff, fire, and storm-driven dust. These are imprecatory lines: the worshiper asks God to defeat forces threatening the covenant people.
The manuscript moves directly to Revelation 19 and Christ’s final victory. Final judgment is certainly part of Christian eschatology, but Psalm 83 is first invoking remembered historical deliverances. Its value is not that it predicts one specific last-days battle; it teaches threatened worshipers to appeal to God’s justice rather than assuming their own power determines the outcome.
