Exhausted Yet Pursuing: Zebah and Zalmunna
Gideon’s three hundred are exhausted but continue pursuing Zebah and Zalmunna. Succoth and Penuel refuse food because the Midianite kings are not yet captured, so Gideon threatens punishment and later carries it out after winning. The passage completes the Midianite campaign but also darkens Gideon’s portrait as deliverance begins to mix with personal vengeance and punishment of fellow Israelites.
