Genesis 15 foretells that Abram’s descendants will live as strangers, suffer affliction, and afterward come out. Exodus 12:40–41 marks the departure from Egypt and gives a 430-year chronological statement. The later passage therefore belongs directly to the fulfillment/development of the sojourn-and-return promise, while the difference between Genesis’s 400-year figure and Exodus’s 430 years requires careful chronological and textual comparison.

Galatians 3:17 says the law came 430 years after the promise, while Exodus 12:40–41 contains Torah’s explicit 430-year notice connected with Israel’s sojourn and departure. The chronological relationship is therefore relevant, but how Paul’s figure relates to patriarchal chronology and different textual traditions remains debated.

Joshua’s covenant speech explicitly retells Israel’s history in Egypt, the sending of Moses and Aaron, the plagues, the sea, and God’s deliverance. The speech compresses the Exodus story into a covenant argument for Israel’s present loyalty to YHWH, making the relationship direct and certain.
