The Cycle of Apostasy, Oppression, and Deliverance
These verses give the reader the interpretive key for most of Judges. Israel abandons the LORD for the Baals, enemies oppress them, the LORD raises judges to save them, and the people relapse after each judge dies. The pattern displays both human instability and divine compassion, while the repeated failure creates a growing need for more than temporary rescue. Jesus foreshadowing: the repeated pattern of God raising temporary judges to save an oppressed people points beyond itself toward the need for a permanent Deliverer. In Matthew 1:21 Jesus is announced as the one who will save his people from their sins. This is a strong canonical pattern, not a claim that every action of every judge mirrors Jesus.
