Paul Retells Israel’s Story toward David’s Son
Acts 13:13–25 centers on paul retells israel’s story toward david’s son. Paul and his companions travel to Pisidian Antioch. In the synagogue Paul retells Israel’s story: God chose the fathers, raised the people in Egypt, led them out, bore with them in the wilderness, gave the land, judges, Saul, and then David—a man after God’s heart. From David’s seed, Paul says, God brought Israel a Savior, Jesus, preceded by John’s baptism.
The wider biblical story comes into focus here. Paul’s gospel begins with Israel’s history, not by discarding it. Exodus, land, judges, monarchy, Davidic promise, John, and Jesus form one salvation-history arc. David matters because the royal covenant trajectory reaches the Messiah.
