Jesus explicitly compares the Son of Man being lifted up with Moses lifting up the serpent in the wilderness, making Numbers 21 a direct Christological connection. Because Jesus himself states the comparison, this is one of Numbers’ clearest inspired Christological interpretations rather than later devotional typology.

The bronze-serpent trajectory runs through three distinct canonical stages: Numbers presents the lifted serpent as a God-given sign of healing, 2 Kings shows Hezekiah destroying it after it becomes an idol, and John 3 authoritatively reuses the original lifting event for the Son of Man. The connection is therefore canonical development, not a direct quotation from Kings.
