Abraham, Rahab, and Faith Made Complete by Works
James now supplies two scriptural witnesses. Abraham’s faith “wrought with” his works and was “made perfect” by works when he offered Isaac; Genesis 15:6 is then said to be fulfilled, and Abraham is called the friend of God. Rahab likewise acts by receiving and protecting the messengers. James concludes as bluntly as possible: as a body without spirit is dead, faith without works is dead.
Where this fits in the story: Genesis 15:6 declares Abraham’s believing response righteous; Genesis 22 later displays that trust under severe testing. Joshua 2 shows Rahab risking herself because she believes Israel’s God is God in heaven and earth. James reads both as embodied faith.
