The Shrewd Manager and the Master You Really Serve
A manager facing dismissal acts decisively to prepare for his future. Jesus does not praise dishonesty as righteousness; he highlights shrewd use of a closing window and then applies the lesson to money, faithfulness, and ultimate allegiance.
Where this fits in the story: wisdom asks whether people live in light of the future they claim to believe. Luke’s wealth teaching repeatedly turns temporary possessions into a test of faithfulness toward God and neighbor.
The final line clarifies the master issue: “Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” Money is not simply a tool in this passage; it can become a rival lord.
