Desire Gives Birth to Sin; God Gives Birth by Truth
James carefully separates testing from divine enticement to evil. God is not the source of moral temptation. The deadly sequence begins when a person’s own desire draws and entices; desire conceives sin; completed sin gives birth to death. James then flips the birth image: every good and perfect gift comes from the unchanging Father, who by his own will brings his people forth through the word of truth as firstfruits of his creatures.
Where this fits in the story: Genesis traces desire, sin, and death from Eden onward, while Torah repeatedly presents life and death as covenant alternatives. James compresses that old story into a vivid conception-and-birth sequence, then answers death-producing desire with God’s life-producing will and word.
