Burning Lips, Hidden Hate, and Flattery
Attractive speech can hide a corrupt interior just as a cheap vessel can be coated to look valuable. Hatred may disguise itself with gracious words, but deception eventually becomes visible; the liar and flatterer finally injure the very people they manipulate.
Proverbs warns that attractive or burning lips can conceal hatred and that flattery can work ruin; Psalm 12 similarly condemns flattering lips and a double heart. Both expose the moral danger of speech whose outward smoothness masks inward division or destructive intent.
Haman’s death on the execution structure prepared for Mordecai vividly embodies the wisdom principle that the one who digs a pit may fall into it. Esther supplies a concrete narrative instance of Proverbs’ moral pattern without claiming that the proverb was written specifically about Haman.
Ecclesiastes and Proverbs share the wisdom image that harmful schemes can recoil on the schemer: one who digs a pit may fall into it. The connection is unmistakable at the proverb level and belongs to a wider biblical moral-reversal pattern.
