Prayer, Open Doors, and Gracious Speech
Paul closes the main exhortation with persistent, watchful, thankful prayer. He asks the Colossians to pray for an open door for the word so that he can speak the mystery of Christ clearly even while imprisoned. The same mission shapes their public life: they are to walk wisely toward outsiders, redeem the time, and speak with grace, “seasoned with salt,” so they know how to answer each person.
Where this fits in the story: Acts repeatedly shows the gospel advancing through doors opened in surprising circumstances, including imprisonment. Wisdom and witness meet here: Christian speech is neither bland nor combative but gracious, fitting, and responsive.
