Zion Built with Blood Will Be Plowed
Micah gathers Judah’s leadership failures into one indictment. Rulers twist justice, priests teach for money, and prophets divine for payment, yet all three still lean on the LORD and say, in effect, “God is with us, so disaster cannot happen.” Micah attacks a dangerous religious assumption: sacred institutions cannot be used as insurance against unrepentant injustice.
The result is one of the book’s starkest announcements. Zion will be plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become heaps, and the temple mountain will become overgrown heights. The temple is not rejected as meaningless; the presumption that its presence makes covenant rebellion safe is rejected.
